Alright so I just rebuilt my cylinder head and put it back on. I know the camshaft alignment mark is on the back timing belt cover but...... the previous owner took it off so i have no mark for the camshaft. Is there another way to get the correct position without having to go and get a back cover?

Re: Timing belt alignment marks
use a straight edge on the valve cover gasket surface of the head and use that as your mark (should be straight up and down in relation to the motor)

Alright thanks
One more question.. Do I need to have timing belt covers or should the belt stay on the gears with just the crankshaft gear having the lip?

Re: Timing belt alignment marks
the covers do not retain the belt, it's more for water, debris, etc...it will stay on without the covers.....
