1997 taurus trans problem

i have a 1997 taurus i drove it to work and drove it home and it shifted fine went to hope in it the next morning and it would nt move it doesnt even act like it shifts in to gear. i jacked up the front of the car and put it in drive and the tires move but when on the ground it will not move the car. any help would be great.

Have you checked the fluid level with the engine running?

yea the level is full and has been changed also with new filter

Is the gear shifter real loose? I had the same issue with my 98 a couple of years back. It turned out to be the shift cable broke at the transmission linkage. Changing the cable cured the problem. Good Luck.

the shifter is nice and tight and the cable moves back and forth

Sounds like something broke inside the transmission.Ford had lube problems with the Taurus transmissions which was fixed later
