dashlights coming on

Several times to day while driving the anti lock brake, brake, and airbag light would come on at the same time and the dash lights and head lights would get brighter. Then when I would push on the gas the lights would dim and depending on how much gas I gave the car the lights would temporarily go out. When trying to go up my driveway (slight incline at the bottom) I could not make it up on several tries. Each time I tried to get up the incline in the driveway the lights would come on and when I push on the gas the engine would rev but the car would not move. So i tried to restart several times and keep getting the same problem. Then I shut off the car and used the remote start and did not have any problems afterwards until I took the car out later tonight and got the 3 dash lights coming on with the lights getting brighter when the 3 dashlights were illuminated then when gas was push the lights would go away/out. Does this sound like the ignition problem? 2000 intrigue 3.5l

Re: dashlights coming on

Could be an ignition problem but also an issue with the traction control system which is controlled by the anti-lock braking system. I also would have the charging system checked. The "flickering" headlights is a well known problem with the Intrigue. It could have something to do with your lights getting brighter and dimmer.

There'll be others coming by who can shed some more light on your issue.

Re: dashlights coming on

i checked the voltage at the battery terminals and am getting 18v which seems really high. I believe it looks like the alt ( voltage reg.) is the culprit.

Re: dashlights coming on

So I am trying to put the new alternator on and it looks like there should be some kind of spacer/bushing for the 2 front bolts. Can someone help clarify this for me? The 2 front bolts are thread all the way and there is still play/alternator movement up and down which leads me to believe that there is a piece missing.

Re: dashlights coming on

so it doesn't look like there should be a spacer and the bolts came out easy but only go back in about a quarter way for both before they start getting hard to turn. I checked the threads and all look good. Has anybody had trouble with the 2 front alternator bolts and can give some advice. i tried to clean the mounts up a bit. might try to get new bolts. I am at a loss right now.

Re: dashlights coming on

It could be the bolts, I'm not positive when I did the alternator on my 99 intrigue 3.5 I believe they went in all the way. Also after the alternator replacement we noticed the car was still doing some wierd stuff we found out that the battery was cracked and leaking so we replaced it and it fixed our dashlight issue. Ours was just the ABS and the Airbag lights. But it does sound more like an alternator issue. The alternator should not move at all when done so I'm positive there aren't any spacers for the bolts.

Re: dashlights coming on

Got the alternator on with the help of some washers. Not sure why the bolts wouldn't go back in all the way. Checked the threads and also had them checked by some one else and they were fine so I'm thinking it may have been the bolts. Car is doing very well for the last few days with no problems at all.
