Question 1997 lack of power

I have a 1997 GMC sierra 305--just over 190,000 miles. Runs good but no power on take off ( sometimes)--if I "feather" the pedal it seems to catchup. I let off and kind of gently pump it it kicks in. New fuel pump about 18 months ago--new plugs, wires, intake gasket. Any help appreciated. Could it be the catlytic converter? Thanks

Re: 1997 lack of power

1) Have a back pressure test done on your catalytic coverters @ a local muffler shop.
Need to make sure, they are not plugged, because of Age + mileage.

Yepi Like a potato in a muffler, it's not getting enough Air.

A bad MAF sensor can also give this symptom, and not throw a code.

Wink Re: 1997 lack of power

Bought a can of electrical contact cleaner--"gently" cleaned MAF sensor--It has it's power back--like new--well as new as 200,000 miles can be. Thanks
