Re: What does DSM stand for?
A said DSM is Diamond Star Motors. That being said, technically the only DSM's are 91-95 Talons, Eclipses, and Lasers. Some people still consider the 96-99's DSM's even though technically they are not.
If someone tries to tell you that a 3000GT or Stealth is a DSM they are a moron. DSM's were built in Normal, IL, and only Normal, IL. 3000GT's and Stealths were built at the Nagoya plant in Okazaki, Japan.

and to elaborate a bit, Diamond Star Motors was a joint venture between Mitsubishi and Chrysler...which is where the name comes from. |

Re: What does DSM stand for?
So now you have me wondering... Why do you say 96-99's are not considered DSMs? My 97 clearly has a badge on the firewall that says DSM and it's the same 4g63t that is found in all the other years aside from it being a 7 bolt motor instead of a 6 bolt...

Re: What does DSM stand for?
The Mitsubishi and Chrysler partnership was dissolved in 95. Hence why the later ones are not technically DSM's.
Also the 7 bolt started in 93 anyway. Quote:

Re: What does DSM stand for?
Well yeah, I know they started in 93. It's still a DSM though... I don't understand how it is not considered a DSM just because the partnership came to an end. They still used the same 4g63 design, just made some slight changes to the existing 7 bolt for 95+ models... Unless of course you are talking about NT models. Then I would say that would be the case as they ran the chrysler motors in them...

Re: What does DSM stand for?
Again, read the snippet from wiki. It doesn't matter what engine it had, it was renamed
