'03 3.8L AWD T&C and towing

I'm planning on towing a trailer that is within the limits of my T&C specs from Michigan to Florida next year, and I'm aware of the tranny problems that the T&C has. What can I do between now and then to help stave off problems for the long haul. What about switching to a synthetic ATF like Amsoil?

ATF+4 is already synthetic. I would stick with the stock fluid. The best thing would be adding a larger transmission cooler. You already have a small one in front of the radiator, I would upgrade the size. There have been discussions of leaving the tranny in D rather than OD on hills.

Re: '03 3.8L AWD T&C and towing

I have a 98, 3.3l and 2 yrs ago drove from cincinnati, oh. to orlando, fl. towing a large pop-up, their where 5 adults in the van and a crap load of stuff we didnt need . My advice, pack VERY light, keep up on maintainance and take your time, drive slow and take it easy on the hills. I didnt do any of these and it cost me $1500 for a reman. transmission. LOL, have a good trip.
