91 ciera spilling coolant=

1991 ciera,3.3 litre ,only about 30,000 miles(cherry). friend,s car. it looks like the coolant spilled outta the resevoir and also outta the rad cap. i tested the car and the fan kicked in at the right time and later kicked off when the motor cooled a bit. probly original thermostat. the plan is to change the thermostat and rad cap and flush the system.

Maybe check the cap? If it can no longer hold the pressure it is rated for it will cause the same problem you are having even if the car has not overheated.

Yes replace the thermostat and the cap, and also make sure you fill it according to what's in the repair manual, so that no air enters the system.
