Rear Axle Bearing Replacement - 99 Suburban
I have a 1999 Suburban k1500, 120,000 miles, with bad rear bearings. Long story short, the bolts on differential cover got lose and the fluid got real low. I would like to go ahead and replace all the bearings at once and know that I will not have to worry about it for a while. Can anyone give me an estimated range of repair shop costs? I know it will vary from city to city, but didn't want to pay $1,500 for a $900 job. Thanks - Tony B.

Re: Rear Axle Bearing Replacement - 99 Suburban
What bearings?, axle bearings or in the differential also. Axle bearings are about 3.0 hrs labor both sides, this does not take into account any rust issues or breaking the pinion shaft bolt in the diff. Parts can be priced at any parts house, includes fluid seals and gaskets of course.

Re: Rear Axle Bearing Replacement - 99 Suburban
Right now, I'm thinking it is just the axle bearings (left and right). I don't hear any noise out of the differential. With my luck though, they will be out as well.
I appreciate the "three hour" labor tip on the axle bearings. I can estimate the price of the parts and add that to the labor costs. |
