Tough problem. Just out of curiosity, when's the last time the alternator output has been checked? Working properly, correct voltage output?

Also, test the fuel pressure. There is a fitting to install a tester on the fuel rail above the intake manifold. The pump may be giving out

Any DTC's, or are we just guessing here? Many things can cause a stall, but all are related to lack of ignition, or fuel supply. Typically, ignition problems will set a DTC, but fuel delivery problems (pressure) will not show up, thats where the pressure gage comes in handy. When it stalls and will not start back up, check spark!

Re: 95 olds still stalls need more help

You may be in luck here (so to speak). I just had this problem on my '95 LSS (Normally aspirated). It is the Engine Control Module (computer). Did just exactly what yours is doing EI. takes 2 - 6 tries to start, may die after driving a few feet - could just up and die while driving down the highway! Make sure that the wiring is not broken going to-or-from the ECM before spending the bucks on the ECM though.

BTW, if you have an aftermarket ECM on the car now, it will NOT show codes so don't depend on them unless you have a GM unit on it. RockAuto Parts sells ECMs from around $200 - $300.

Hope this helps.

Attached to the firewall where the toes of your front passenger's feet would be (on the '94). I expect it's the same location on the '95.

Go to a local junkyard and pull one from a '95. Make sure it's the same computer that's on your car. Easy enough to pull out, and cheaper than 2-300 dollars that's for sure.

moscow913 is right on the money. Best of luck. BTW moscow913, how much does the junkyards demand for an ECM?

Re: 95 olds still stalls need more help

I picked up two of them (just in case) for 30 bucks each. But the K.C. area has a "pick & pull" where you can do it yourself. No hi-tech, no 'professional' high prices.

Re: 95 olds still stalls need more help

Cool. That sure beats the price I just received via a voice mail quoting $260 for a reman' (part only). The replacement procedure looks easy - 2 power connections and looks like 3 color=coded pinned connections. Thanks again.

Re: 95 olds still stalls need more help

Glad you got This Fixed...

This is a very common failure mode for all of the C, H and U Body 3800 Powered 1994 & 1995 Models... The majority of these PCM's will fail in that manner.. They almost never fail completely, just enough that it can leave you chasing your tail..

Been there and done that several times over with my 95's... My 95 van is updated to the 97 PCM for this reason, and my 95 Bonneville is currently being updated to the 97 PCM as well..
