96 Blazer Problem Need Some Help Before That Snow Comes Please!!

I have a 96 Blazer that I had done the lower intake on. After reassembly I had to re set the timing marks and such. I have no SES light on or anything, but the truck makes like a knocking or poping sounds and follows with idle. I put new cap rotor plugs wire oil coolant in. Just wondering if maybe I'm a tooth off or something.

And be sure to check firing order.

And camshaft retard setting after you get it running.

Let us know how it goes.

It does have a horizontal distributor, or enhanced ignition system, follow MT's link to make sure you have the distributor back on right.

Also, make sure the wires are on properly. It is very easy to cross them and casue you to pull your hair out....

What did it take to get it running?
Deep knock would be piston noise or rod and main bearings.
Can you change knock by pulling one plug wire at a time?
Just.
Poping can be plug wire crossed or missfire.

Recheck firing order and dist cap and rotor.

Re: 96 Blazer Problem Need Some Help Before That Snow Comes Please!!

ok thanks. It doesnt seem like a deep knock but more of a poping noise. I thought it was maybe the injectors poping. Since it wasnt knocking before I changed it, I wouldnt think that I spun a bearing because soon as I started it up it was making the sounds. But I am going to recheck it now then I'll repost.

ok doubled checked wires, tried the 1 tooth ahead and 1 back and it threw codes and was a little harder starting up. So I put it back to TDC rotor pointed at number 1 like I had it started right up but still has that noise there. any other suggestions.

Knocking or popping noise?

Can you change noise when you pull one plug wire at a time engine running?

You may need to find a mechanic type person with a trained ear to listen to it.
We can not hear noise so you you have to decribe it to us.
Knocking or poping or clicking noise?
Is the noise deep in engine or on top?

I really don't know what kind of knock kind of sounds like a lifter but it don't have that like clinky sounds like a lifter. I am going to try and post a video for some extra support thank you everyone for your help. Would maybe a vacum hose cause it to knock in some way.

No On vacumn line.

A nock is something lose or broke.
Try to feel or listen for what area the noise is coming from.

Good luck
