96 Firebird Engine Problem

Hey guys, first off, please forgive me for my lack of engine knowledge. I had numerous fixes on my car and my recent problem is that my car hiccups while im driving, the service engine light came on and it got worse as i was coming home from work. I wish i could explain it better but that is the gist of it. It feels like every time i gas it it kinda humps along and now it does it when my car is idle. I spoke with a friend of mine and he says that i may need a tune-up. Any thoughts on what the problem may be is highly appreciated. Thanks

Re: 96 Firebird Engine Problem

Do you have a v6 or an LT1. If you have had spark plugs put in recently check to make sure that one didn't get cracked, I have made that mistake on the rear plugs that are hard to get to. You could be having optispark or fuel pump issues. The dealership can hook your car up to an ignition diagnosis machine that reads the fire going from the optispark to each plug, that is how I found my problem. Start out with diagnosing and ruling out these and go from there.
