2000 Elantra low speed stall

I bought this car about a year ago. The past 4 months it has stalled twice. Today it has crossed the line: it stalled 3 times on me

Every time it has stalled I was going at a very low speed (less than 5 mph). Twice it stalled when I put the car into reverse from a standstill. I saw a recall notice while looking online today. I called up the dealer and they say that it has already been taken care of on my car (according to the VIN).

When it stops, I can put it into Neutral and restart the car. There are no dashboard lights when driving normally. When it stalls, they light up (not sure if that is helpful). This is an automatic and I don't run the A/C.

Is there any chance that they messed up when fixing the recall? Could it be something else?

Thank you in advance!

I assume you aren't getting a check engine light. Might want to get the codes read just in case there is a stored code that will help (Autozone, Advance Auto, etc will read your codes for free). In any case, you should check the idle control valve (red arrow points to it in picture)

Disconnect the wiring and remove the valve, and spray the inside with a good carb cleaner and let it soak for a while, and then blow it out. Repeat until the valve looks clean, and reinstall. You might also have a problem with the fuel pressure regulator that is on the left end of the fuel rail, but cleaning the valve might do the trick. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Re: 2000 Elantra low speed stall

Is there any type of driving condition that is prominent before the stall, like coming off a highway or idling at a light? I had a 1989 Camry that used to stall when I came off the highway and came to a stop - RPM's would drop and the car would stall. I had the engine speed increased so idle went from about 400 RPM to around 700 - it was an inexpensive fix and solved the problem.

Re: 2000 Elantra low speed stall

I wanted to give it some time before closing this thread. After cleaning the idle control valve I have not experienced any more stalls. If anyone else has this issue, this is definitely something to check. Thank you for the help!
