Turn Signal doesn't cancel

When I put on my turn Signal, the left turn doesn't cancel when I turn the wheel back.
What is the part called that I need? Is it very hard to replace? What is all involved? Easy? Hard?
Would this be a good time to replace my lock cylinder?

Any incite would be appreciated,

Chris.

Re: Turn Signal doesn't cancel

you would need the switch and remove the stearing wheel the stearing wheel lock plate un plug the harrness from under the dash and fish it through the colume its not hard just time consuming and yes it is a good time to change the cly

Re: Turn Signal doesn't cancel

chances are it's either the return spring which are very cheap or it's your turn signal cancelling cam, but either way the wheel has to come off and the lock plate. Then the springs and cam are right there.

Re: Turn Signal doesn't cancel

I can get the plastic white thing for $10. They have the same thing with a wiring harness for $42. Is that what I might need? When I push down, the force at the hard spot to push it down is the same when I push up.

My GM Manual sure is vague. Even the pictures are not showing how to get to it. Wonder why it's so clear on everything so far but this?

Re: Turn Signal doesn't cancel

ACDelco list two different switches, one with, and one without UK3....ELECTRONIC SYSTEM, ACCESSORY CONT (STEERING WHEEL RADIO CONTROLS). Be sure to get the right one for your application! BTW, what you see below is similar to what you will need, not "the plastic white thing"!

Re: Turn Signal doesn't cancel

I see "the plastic white thing in your picture." It has the wiring harness on it. I'm guessing I can buy the "WPT" and put my wiring on it? Maybe better just to get the whole thing?

Don't want to make this to complicated, just want to fully understand.

Is the "turn signal canceling cam" on this thing, to where I'd need to get this? Or is it something like the spring where I can buy it and put it on?

This kind of sucks not knowing if I need the whole thing, or just the spring. I guess if I just needed a spring, I pull it all apart, then soon after, the major thing (in your pic) goes out, I have to do it all over again.

What makes me mad is this, very nice, GM Manual that has been so good, has not very good drawings or explanation on the procedures. Just thinking about it, maybe it will make scene as I'm looking at it while doing it.

Chris.

P.S. Mine does not have the controls on the steering wheel.

Re: Turn Signal doesn't cancel

go to any auto parts store and ask for Dorman part # 49312 that is the cancelling springs and the cancelling cam part # 83232 and put them both it.they're very cheap the picture that Hotz28 put up doesn't have the cam in it but here is a link showing you want it look like.

Does the springs and cam go on the white thing?

Re: Turn Signal doesn't cancel

The white thing you probably don't need and you can buy just those 2 springs in that pictures. The cam goes in the middle of that white thing

Re: Turn Signal doesn't cancel

Wish I had pictures of taking it apart to get to it. Thank you for the information.

Re: Turn Signal doesn't cancel

Thanks for the advice.

Wish someone would of told me I need a special tool to get the lock plate off.

We got right down to it, but had no way to get the plate off. Had to put it all back together.

Out of all the questions I asked about the job, no one bothered to tell me.

Chris.

It is a fairly easy tool to make and clearly shown in the haynes
manual.

You did say you had the manual.

anyway good luck with further help.

Cheers

I am glad you helped. I wanted to know as much as I could about it. You helped with that. Thank you,

Re: Turn Signal doesn't cancel

We got it done. We saw the spring was broken, so we fixed it. $2.99, and about an hour, in the dark.

Thank you all for helping on the forums. It seemed way easier the second time.

The longest time spent was getting the rig off that you take off after you push down on the lock thing.

Attached is a photo of what it looked like with the broken spring, when we got to it.

Thank you,

Chris.
