No start after 171/174 code repair

HELP!!

I did the intake manifold repair thanks to the awesome instructions here. Seemed pretty easy until I tried to start the car up. It spins over fast like it's got no spark.

As near as I can tell, everything is hooked up as far as electrical connectors go.

I don't think I messed anything up. Took my time and made sure everything was good and clean.

I'm not a total rookie so I'm really stumped.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Jeff

Re: No start after 171/174 code repair

I can hear the pump come on for about 3 seconds every time I hit the key. Still doesn't seem like there's much pressure. Is there something that shuts the pump off preventing it from making pressure?

If I put my foot to the floor and try to start it, it seems like it's misfiring. Just sputters and pops.

This is making me nuts. I need to get this running today. Any help would seriously be appreciated.

Re: No start after 171/174 code repair

Well. All fixed! I out tricked myself as usual. I have a parts washer so instead of spray cans or rags and kerosene, I figured I had it easy when it came to cleaning everything.

I blew all the parts off with my compressor and wiped them dry but apparently not good enough.

I called a friend of mine to get some fresh eyes on the problem. He suggested the plugs might be fouled. I just put them in so I didn't figure they were but I pulled one anyway.

Sure enough, they were all slimy with degreaser. I pulled them all, blew them out and hit them with a MAPP gas torach to burn off anything left.

Reinstalled and it fired right up! It idles dead smooth and has way more power than it used to. I'm guessing that has to do with one of the IMRC rods laying on the manifold because the bushing was missing.

So thanks again to everyone who wrote up the how to on this repair. If I hadn't shot myself in the foot, I'd have been done in four hours.

And that includes getting bit by the "might as well" bug and running to the parts store for valve cover gaskets.

Thanks again

Jeff

As Maxwell Smart might have said "Ahh - the old cleaner routine to clean the cleaner, eh???" LOL - glad it all worked out in the end for you. My 0171/0174 fix is now 14 months old, engine is strong and never a lean code again...
