I need help
I have a 01 grand am gt, and the abs, check engine, traction lites come on but not until I turn the wheel. Historically the car has had the wheel bearings replaced, but dont know which ones for sure. I know gm has had to replace 2 faulty ones under warranty, which is frustrating to me. Anybody got any ideas. Thanks |

Re: I need help
Welcome to AF!!
This sounds like you may have problems with the bearings again. I would have it scanned using an ABS capable scanner. This will indicated which bearing/sensor is bad. Usually if the ABS light comes on it indicates an issue with the sensors. This usually causes the traction control light to come on as well. The CEL may be due to something altogether different. A scan can tell you alot. |

Re: I need help
Are these wheel bearing replacements junk or is it just my bad luck?

Re: I need help
My expierence says GM has a problem with the wheel bearings/speed sensors.
Do you feel the same? |

Re: I need help
It could be a problem in the wiring also. I would ohm the wiring with the wheels straight. Then turn the wheels to see if it is in the wiring.

Re: I need help
If it is a wheel bearing assembly, how hard is it to replace.
Is it relatively simple, or should I have a shop do it. Just trying to conserve how much we stick in this car. |

Re: I need help
I believe that there is a write up in the tips and maintenance forum for the hub assembly replacement.

Re: I need help
See Alero forum for good pics of front wheel hub replacement:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...t=hub+assembly I did mine, it was fairly easy, ~ 2.5 hours for both. |

Re: I need help
Just a quick update.
Further investigation I found that the clip on the wheel assembly, that hold the plug for the sensor was damaged [probably when the bearing was replaced] and when i turned the wheel, the connection was not good. Something for everone to remember "it not always the bearing". Straightened up the clip and then put a tie wrap on it. All the lites went away. THANKS FOR THE HELP GUYS We just saved $300 Thanks Again |
