YAMAHA YZR-M1 2006 CAMEL No.46 [Tamiya 1/12]

My new project.

Now I'm building the Yamaha M1 2006 Camel version Rossi's No. 46 machine.

This one.

As I have been sick and tired of heavy detail up building due to my former Yamaha M1 with topstudio's detail up set, I will only concentrate on exterior without much wiring.

I used this kit again because there's no 2006 camel version from tamiya.

I had much trouble with tamiya's Yamaha M1 2005 version to transfer it to 2006 version.

However, for cowlings, I found it impossible to find all the different parts by comparing only some photos and gave up the complete transform.

Machines of 2005 and 2006 season look similar but lots of parts are slightly different.

So, this time I cannot but make a false Yamaha M1 2006 Camel version, I'm afraid.

Firstly, transformed the cowlings.

Marked the different parts by comparing the cowlings with the photos.

Carved the cawling along the marking.

Filled up with putty.

and made the shape with file and sandpaper.

Before and after...

Can you find the difference?

Cut the windshield and made the front cowling.

Painted surfacer...

Made new camera hole and filled up the old one.

Did more sending...

And put on the white surfacer...

To be continued.....

Comments are welcome.

Great start!

It is a little bit difficult to make those modifications but will be worth it. I would like to see that bike detailed too but I know the hard it is and take some relax on the bikes is very pleasant.

Here you can find images that may help you

They are from the Max's website http://www.motomodeling.com/ take a look at the prototype page.

Cheers

I got the top studio resin parts for that bike. Cheap but you will lack the details under the tank dummy...

Great start on a fabulous livery!

I made it by art knife. After drilling a hole, carved it by knife. But it became a little bit bigger than I want.

Re: YAMAHA YZR-M1 2006 CAMEL No.46 [Tamiya 1/12]

Checked if the Decals fit well on the cowlings... using masking tape.

Hum.... a little bit different.. but decided to use the round blue decal without painting the blue part after masking.

I found a data sheet provided by the msm creation with its decals. Tabu doesn't give this data with its decal.

In the data sheet, I fortunately found the Round 7 Catalunya is very well fit with my conversion.

Tail cowling and muffler are same with 2005 season, Camel marking was used for main sponsor and decisively Rossi win the race, I know.....

I painted cowlings with tamiya's can crome yellow by airbrush. It was more deep yellow than I think, but looks more like camel yellow. It looks OK.

Painting yellow color was more difficult than I think..... All cowling parts show different yellow....

After painting, put on the decals.

Many parts of 2006 version are different from the parts of 2005 version.

The 2006 version..

Compare it with the following 2005 version..

The shape of rear fender is changed.

I don't know the exact shape and size. So..... Just made it similar.

And... heel guards are changed too. Right and left are of different shape...

They will be assembled like this. I also changed the frame.

The brake fluid reservoir.... What a sharp drop of quality!

Made some holes... It's the easiest and cheapest way to enhance the detail.

I do not use photo etched part this time. So just carved it out. Not bad.

Coated seat with stocking. But it looks much bigger than the 1/12 scale.

Made some carbon parts and made the cowling parts paited with clear.

Added some details....

Made the damper....

Cut off the original part and made detail with stylene beam. But it can be hardly seen under the cowling...

I don't know the name of this part, but....

No topstudio's PE parts and resin connectors for this project.... So I made them.

And painted and assembled the front wheel module.

It looks much better after painting.

Made shine effect on the brake disc screw. Did you see them?

Also, started to make the chain set from hobby design.

It's not easy to assemble(but much easier than the chain from topstudio), but the detail is quite good.

Don't forget to devide the chain, unless you cannot put the chain on the bike.

Super detailing! Great idea to put styrene in the Dreml tool, I have to try that.
Front fork assembly looks bad ass! Great work on the other mods as well!

Don't you polish the cowls before second clear coat? I have nothing to complain about your precious paint jobs but I think the result would be even better if you don't paint over the sanded surface. I might be wrong though...

No. As I've never polished cowlings before the last clear coat, I cannot tell the difference between the results. I also think more polishing job can improve the result.
However, polishing is difficult and time consuming, so I think polishing one time at the last step is enough for my bike.

Re: YAMAHA YZR-M1 2006 CAMEL No.46 [Tamiya 1/12]

A little progress...

I want to display my M1 like this photo...

So, I made the stand by brass beam.

To make it possible to fit this stand like the photo, I used brass tube.

The core of the axis is hollow.

It is assembled like this.

I found Tuner Model Manufactory release the axis and nut sets, but not sure if the axis core is empty.

If anybody knows about this item, please let me know.
