2000 4cy 626 Mazda Transmission stuck

The car remains in park no matter what gear I have the selector in. I thought I was going to find a cable to the top of the tranny, but when I removed the air filter box to inspect it there was no cable to the top of the tranny. I have removed the middle console to look at seeing what might be wrong with the shifter but not sure how to proceed with diagnosing the prob. The key and brake lockout's seem to be functioning fine. all fuses test out okay. There looks like a cable connected to the shifter that goes under the computer but so far I have not determined what it is connected to. I am seeking advice as how to proceed with a repair.

Thanks in advance

okay - figured it out. There actually is a shifter cable to the transmission. It is in the back of the tranny on the Mazda 626. For whatever reason the clip fell off and the cable end came off the arm. So... back on the road again!
