bypass valve conversion q...

has anyone tried to make the stock bypass valve vent to air? i was thinking if i blocked off the air intake return side and put a one way check valve on the out port of the bypass valve would i be able to hear it? if this not a good idea someone please tell me...but id rather try this to see if it works then to spend the $125 for a BOV. it should work if you think about it, its still going to let the compressed air out, just to the atmosphere instead of back into the intake. just a thought

Re: bypass valve conversion q...

The stock system is set up to recirculate because of the MAS set up. Don't vent to atmosphere or you could cause driveability problems or possibly stalling.

Re: bypass valve conversion q...

Ive got a Greddy RS recirculating...I like it. Not loud enough to be annoying, but you can definitely hear it.
Theres recirculating kits for alot of the popular BOVs.

Re: bypass valve conversion q...

cool. how long do you think that knock off would last? or should i just suck it up and go with the greddy? and for the y pipe, can i hook these up to the stock one or do i have to buy the "bling bling" chrome one to make it work? i would rather keep the stock one instead of having 1 shiny thing in the engine bay. also, im not boosting enough to pop the stock one off, so id like to save as much money as i can so that when something breaks, i can afford it and thank you everyone for answering all my questions. hopefully one of these days i will be able to answer some other newbie's q's lol

Re: bypass valve conversion q...

they're made at the same place that greddy had them produced... they just don't have a greddy sticker. it's all the exact same shit

Re: bypass valve conversion q...

I beleive thats incorrect Emilie. They are Chinese knock offs that were reverse engineered. The early knock off versions were said to be well made, but the newer ones are said to have a failure rate.

Re: bypass valve conversion q...

the BOV is actually mounted on the intake "bubble", and connected to the y-pipe through a hose.
Buy anyways, the stock y-pipe should work fine.

if you look hard enough you can find a used REAL one for not much more than that...i picked mine up for 75.

Re: bypass valve conversion q...

alright, ill keep a look out for all of them. i had another question that ive been trying to find but havent come across anything yet and id rather not start a new thread. i have a friend with a layth (sp) and i was wondering if i could drill out the lifters to 3mm? does the stock 1mm stay that same width all the way through? im not planning on trying this until spring but i thought id get some info on them. thanks

Re: bypass valve conversion q...

No, it won't work.

You can seriously buy all 24 lifters for around $100 if you look hard enough.
