holly 4barrel duel pump

Hey everybody! i have and 84 chevy caprice classic that Im putting a 350 in...dont kno too much about the motor as it is not the original one. I do kno that it does have a cam, holly duel pump carb mounted on a high rise aluminum intake. The job is just about done but it seems like the carb is giving to much gas and allows it to flood. It cranks over and stays on for maybe nomore then 5seconds. It shoots a thick cloud of white smoke after it shuts off. This is basically the initial start-up to proceed with the proper adjustments from there. Im learning as i go along. Could someone help with what would be the cause and the repair of it all? Thanks!!!!!

Re: holly 4barrel duel pump

What jets are installed in the metering plates?

Are the power valves intact or blown?

Does the carb say "Holley" on it?

Any one of those could be the problem.
