03 speedometer problem

anybody have any problems with their speedometer. got out of my Tahoe to run into the store came out and put the key in the ignition and before i cranked it over i noticed the speedo reading 85 mph while i was still parked. once i started driving the speedo appeared to be moving normally except 85 was now zero mph and as i started to speed up the needle moved up as well, till it pegged out on the little stop to the far right. anybody with a clue as to what has happened and what can be done to fix this? is this a common issue? if so what can be done and what can i expect to pay to get it working correctly again. i have enough problem keeping the law following me with lights flashing when my speedo is correct.

do you use your trip odometer?
since the speedometer peged out and you did not experience fuel shutdown [max speed 100MPH ] I suspect the dash circuit board damaged.

Re: 03 speedometer problem

There was a court settlement on this problem.

Call this number for an update: 866-514-0405, or call your local dealer and ask them if they cover it. If you have an ongoing relationship with your dealer they may take care of it without any paperwork.

or perhaps "Obama Bailout 09" made all previous warranties and settlements null-and-void ???

Let us know if you have any luck.

Re: 03 speedometer problem

You can remove the cluster and send it out to be repaired. The stepper motors that run the needles are of poor design for many 2002-2005 GM vehicles. I had the one in my Envoy repaired for $70 plus shipping through a place on eBay. They replace all the motors with new updated design. Hope this helps!
