Re: best synthetic motor oil and trans fluid

if you want to get substantially better, look into an AMSOIL swap

Re: best synthetic motor oil and trans fluid

well i would google it or ask around in your area for an AMSOIL dealer. usually you can find a couple different ones. also they do transmission fluid as well and you don't have to change it NEARLY as much because the fluid is that much better. if you decided not to go with that, the Dextron VI is better than the Dextron III so I would atleast go to that. With your conventional substitutes I like that Castrol Motor Oil and Transmission Fluid both. So either way is perfectly fine.

I've heard nothing but good about royal purple oil, I'd stick with that. As far as the trans fluid, I just switched to Dex VI, and I can tell you it made a noticeable difference in the feel of the shifts. I would recommend it for sure.

I have been using mobil1 5-30wt synthetic for over 10years..no oil leaks or usage...with the proper filters of high quality filtration material this is just about the best in my opinion for me...

with the transmission its too bad you have had the dexron III THIS was droped by GM , because of high failure rates in the transmissions...dexron VI is now the updated fluid to use ....I figured this out with help from my aviation engineer friend in the 1990's..

since I used the synthetic transmission fluid by mobil it was quite a change...I actually thought my new vehicle had tranny problems until the synthetic was installed...faster shifts especially in very below zero weather...still no issue with tranny after all these years...[no leaks]

Re: best synthetic motor oil and trans fluid

I read a study by the American Society of Lubrication Engineers a couple of years ago that rated Royal Purple and Amzoil as the best synthetic oils on the market. I personally use Amzoil, changing the oil at 20,000 miles and the filter at 7,000 miles. I've got an '04 Chevrolet Classic with 130,000 miles that has had Amzoil in it since 10,000 miles and the engine burns no oil and gives me 30+ MPG.

with the lastest improvements in the mobil synthetic oils, the rating data shows it is very close to amzoil ...the cost however is very much higher for amzoil.

royal purple appeared to be lower in rating but not by much...costs however are also higher....

I would say most using any of these oils one would not find any difference in performance..the use of some however would drain your wallet..

changing the oil at the 15,ooomi point is a variable mileage which would not be good for all...this is where the oil testing is needed for exact condition..

dusty hot conditions do require more filter changes and oil replacement.
