vibration when braking

I have a 1998 Ford Taurus . new rotors and pads all the way around. I recently starting experiencing a big time vibration when every I apply the brakes. I understand that this is an ongoing problem with this vehicle. Any thoughts or suggestions greatly appreciated

Re: vibration when braking

Did this vibration begin after replacing the brake rotors and pads, or were they changed in an attempt to remedy the vibration when braking? Did changing them out have any effect?

Re: vibration when braking

I put everything on appx 12000 miles ago. About 5000 in i started having the same vibration as current. Had the mechanic where I work check everything over and resurface front rotors. He advised everything looked ok. Kind of got me puzzled.
Thanks for responding.

Re: vibration when braking

Did resurfacing the rotors have any effect? Were the rotors out of round? Is the vibration felt only in the brake pedal or also in the steering wheel? If only in the brake pedal, the issue is probably in the rear rotors or drums depending on which system your car has in the rear. Did your mechanic friend torque the wheels back on using a torque wrench and a star pattern?

Re: vibration when braking

mebrown,
Also in addition to what Rod has told, check to see if your rotors were machined too thin. Cheap and/or thin rotors will quickly warp again.

Re: vibration when braking

Check your tie rods.

The brakes have such a bad rap for this that people over look the tie rod ends.

It will cause the problem.

DId you "bed" the brakes when you installed them?
