Power Steering Filter?
Hey guys. I just swapped out my PS pump which by the looks of it has been leaking for sometime. When I put in my new water pump I noticed how bad it was and checked the fluid which looked more like motor oil. Anyways I was wondering if any has installed a PS fluid filter before? I was going to put one on the return line but wanted to know if anyone had a problem with leaking after the install?

Re: Power Steering Filter?
This is not bad from an engineering perspective...to filter the fluid.
However also consider you are adding another path for leaks, another item to be maintained, etc. The OE systems run for hundreds of thousands of miles with minimal attention, as long as the fluid is kept closed and thus clean, there isn't much problem. The concept is similar to a transmission...which is also a hydraulic system of sorts. And there is no spin-on-filter for that (in most cases). Basically as long as the components start clean and are protected from additional contamination along the way, they can last a long time. I would be careful on a return filter...they need to be big (volume) and non-restrictive otherwise this can starve and cavitate the pump...which reduces its lifespan very quickly.
