97 Dodge Neon engine reving

I have a 97 Dodge Neon that we dont drive to often but lately when the car is in gear and you press the gas pedal it revs for a second or two then catches into gear. This happens just about everytime we are driving now, either while driving from a dead stop or slowing down to make a turn then trying to speed up again. Not sure if this is transmission related or not.

A second is is that the speedometer works intermittentl. Sometimes it will work all the time others the needed will jump from 0 to the MPH while driving.

Any help on either issues is appreciated.

Re: 97 Dodge Neon engine reving

Check the fluid level for your transmission, it may be low. If it is low, only use ATF+3 or ATF+4. No Dexon/Mercon fluids!!!

Give this a shot for your gauge problem...
