Where is 2000 Audi A6 4.2 OBD port?

Just bought an A6 and I made it just over 24 hours before the check engine light lit up. Where is the OBD port?

If you are sitting in the drivers seat, right above your left knee-down low- There may be a little door covering it.

Re: Where is 2000 Audi A6 4.2 OBD port?

Thanks dude, any suggestions for a P0422 code? Emissions low on Bank 1. It only happens when I drive grandma-like around town. I've cleared it, and it hasn't come back yet. I've heard of others having the same problem. I'm sure it will come back now that all is snow covered and I will be taking it easy.

Re: Where is 2000 Audi A6 4.2 OBD port?

Not a cheap fix unfortunatly. Labour is not too hard though
(P0422 bank one catalyst -Efficency below threshold)
This means that your bank one cat converter is burnt out.
To really fix this problem properly, you will need to replace your bank one (right side) cat converter along with both o2 sensors.
The othert problem is that these systems are VERY touchy and an aftermarket cat converter will though a code also- Meaning to really fix it- you need to buy a factory replacment.(Not cheap)

Or you could ignore it if you do not need to do a emmisions testing up ther in the great state of Alaska. This will do no damage to your engine, It will just not clean the emmisions all well coming out of your tail pipe.

Its your choice

Oh man, not the greatest news. The light hasn't come back on so I will not concern myself with over $500 worth of parts and labor.

I appreciate the reply. We do have emissions testing in Alaska depending on where you live. On newer cars here in Anchorage if the CEL is not on you automatically pass. Hooray for that.

Re: Where is 2000 Audi A6 4.2 OBD port?

Fixed the problem. Upstream O2 sensor on the passenger's side. You have to take the oil filter off, use a special shortened crescent wrench, which I picked up at Wal-Mart and stick your entire arm up into the bay to get to it. 4 hour job, including time to wait for the oil to drain.

***update***

light came back on. bought the downstream, reset light and sold car.
