Irratic Idle...Help
A few days ago my idle was idling very high 2 rpms..then it went bazerk on me and was idling up and down it was imbarrassing. So I had the Idle control unit changed and now its still abit high I think. It is registering 1.5 on the rpm gage. Is this normal or should it be lower, I got a brand new ICU for it and is there something I should know about how its installed correctly. I had a friend install it for me and it seems to be running abit high still. Other than that it runs fine..no ups or downs.
Thanks Vicky |

Re: Irratic Idle...Help
have you tried adjusting the Idle Set Screw on the front of the throttlebody? Wait for it to be warmed up fully before messing with it. Warm curb idle should be 600-800 revs.

Re: Irratic Idle...Help
Before I changed my timing belt I had my Idle set high because my car would cut off if it was set below 1200 and it was jumping up and down like you said because the belt was worn out and was slightly off time. But like he said adjust the set screw and see if that works

Re: Irratic Idle...Help
Don't forget to set your base idle. There's a brown connector nearest to the passenger in the rear of the battery. Need to connect it to a wire and ground that out. I'll try and find a link for you or a more step by step on how to do. Made the idle better on 3 cars in the last week.

Re: Irratic Idle...Help
OK..I will try the idle screw and see if he can get it right. My car has always idled fine until the ICU went out. It just needs to be fine tuned I can see. Thanks!!

Re: Irratic Idle...Help
There's something in the factory manual about how to set your base idle by grounding out a cable thats in a brown connector near where your window wiper motor is. I can't find the manual so I can't show you guys what I'm talking about. If you can get a hold of a manual.. It'll be in there.
