Super-AFC II in 97 GSX

I am trying to hook up this S-AFC II into a friends 97 GSX, but I am a little lost.
I got the RED (power), BROWN (ground 1) and BLACK (ground 2), the GRAY (throttle), PINK output and ORANGE input (Airflow) wires connected.

I am having problems with the GREEN (rpm) wire - the manual says it should be connected to PIN 8 (in the 12-pin connector) - well that pin doesn't exist, it is just an empty slot.
The PURPLE (knock), it is also suppose to be connected to PIN 8 (in the 22-pin connector) and it is just an empty slot as well.

Re: Super-AFC II in 97 GSX

I know this is going to sound weird, but look at the connector as if it was in a mirror and see if the wires match up then. The pin layout for my 95 420a ECU was totally backwards.

Also, make sure it's the right harness.

Re: Super-AFC II in 97 GSX

unless im mistaken you wont be able to see knock with the afc on a turbo dsm anyways so you might as well leave that wire unhooked anyways. As far as the rpm signal goes you shouldnt have a problem finding it. It has been so long since i have looked at a dsm ecu layout i wouldnt be able to tell you anything. Try vfaq.com i think there is an informative write up about afc installation there.

Re: Super-AFC II in 97 GSX

Well the connectors aren't shown backwards, be cause the other wires are right where they should be.

I checked on VFAQ.COM and none of the links for the AFC install work. but I checked the pinouts, on VFAQ.com, and it shows the same thing except they are not numbered the same (1-92), in the manual they are numbered 1-?? (depending on the number of wires in the connector) for each harness. none the less that wire is missing and I am lost....
