Re: Lost 2nd gear and overdrive

2nd Gear and 4th (Overdrive) both have the 2-4 Band applied. If you lost both of these gears, the 2-4 Band is slipping. Tranny needs to be removed and rebuilt to repair this failure.

Could it just be the solinoid?

with a transmission this old and past reports of failures this would be a rebuild job..

what are your transmission fluid / filter maintenece intervals ...?
did you just purchase this vehicle? what does the fluid look like ?

Re: Lost 2nd gear and overdrive

A scan with a trans function would reveal whether the solenoid is active, but j cAT's advice is correct.

Re: Lost 2nd gear and overdrive

2nd and 4th do not share the same solenoid.

For 2nd, the A solenoid is OFF, B is ON.

For 4th, A is ON and B is OFF.

When it is suppose to shift to 2nd, does it feel like it goes into Neutral or does it stay in 1st?

Re: Lost 2nd gear and overdrive

If you have lost 2nd and O/D but reverse is good then the issue is with the 2/4 band or band servo. The servo could be leaking or the band strut is broken. I would check the pan for debris. This is not an electrical problem.
