Window clips and door trim...

Hey all.. Been following window issues here for awhile.. Got an '02 Alero whose window finally died (went down, won't come back up). Motor runs fine, you can hear it going "up and down" (spinning at least). I'm assuming my 'white clips' that from what I read sit on the bottom of the glass are broken off. Before I look around to ordering them (which is better btw, going to dealer or somewhere like autozone, want good replacements), I need to figure out how to get into the door panel area. Do I need to buy one of those trim tools? What type/style should I look for? Autozone search revealed a "generic trim tool", looks like a snakes forked tongue on a stick. Is that right? I thought it was something wide, like a putty knife with sharp u-curve type end (to pull the panel?)..

If anyone has seen a write-up instructional type document and could post some linkage, or could aid me with some "how to" help, I'd really appreciate it. Never done anything with removing panels, and don't want to ruin the ride!

Thanks,

eR

Re: Window clips and door trim...

Either of the trim tools you mentioned will be fine. I did 2 of my windows (01 Alero) with just a large flat screwdriver, you don't have to buy the special tool.

You will need some metric sockets, but I forget which size, sorry. Other than that, it's pretty obvious what needs to be done. I would take the inner door panel off before buying the clips, just to be sure what you have. The cable could have broken instead, but that is unlikely.
