Power steering pressure hose thread
Replaced the power steering pump quite easily after I was able to remove the stubborn pulley. However, I was unable to reconnect the high pressure hose. It simply would not thread. I did not try to force it because I did not want to ruin the threads. The pump was purchased at Autozone. I have search and found similar threading issues for this pump. Any ideas or suggestions? Was going to just replace the hose now too. But don't want to do more work/$ if not necessary. 97' JGC 4x4 5.2l Thanks!

Re: Power steering pressure hose thread
Are you suggesting the pump's threads are different than the fitting?
You might want to remove the pump and have a close look at the threads just to be sure. You could try a new hose, but obviously it may be the same as the one you have. Or you could take the pump back and try your luck with a new one. Personally, I would take the pump and the hose to a custom hydraulic hose shop. They could quickly and easily give you an adaptor or place a proper fitting on your existing hose, or (best choice, imo) just make you a new hose, for just a few dollars. Here are two such shops in your area. There are many more if you Google, one may be closer to you. http://www.tristatehose.com/ http://www.hydraulicshop.net/index.htm |

Re: Power steering pressure hose thread
I believe the threads are different. I'm gonna pull the PS pump back out tonight and take it over to auto zone. They have a high pressure hose for 16 bucks. If that fits, I'll install. If not, I may have to try your solution below. Just so frustrating that it did not fit. Thought it might be a known issue that the OEM hose does not fit the aftermarket PS pump. Thanks for your advice.

Re: Power steering pressure hose thread
After about an hour of struggling, I got the nut off the end on the high pressure hose to the gearbox. New hose form Advanced($16) went in easy with new O rings on either side. Quart of fluid and all is good. Thanks for your help.-John
