Tamiya F1 shock/suspension mount points

Hey all,

I'm working on the Lotus 78 1/12 Tamiya kit. The problem I'm having is the "snap in" shock and suspensions that appear on almost all Tamiya F1 kits. On 1/20 kits I don't worry too much about it, but on the 1/12 kits it's more apparent. Because of this, I'd really like to "correct" this flaw. My question comes in here--what's the best way to correct it?

Is it to crimp or flatten Al tubing and drill a hole? Is it to use the "snap" fit original kit piece and fill in the open end with CA glue or something like plasti-dip? Possibly use plastic rod/tubing the size of the mount point and use a metal or plastic rod to mount onto? Or, is there a better way I haven't mentioned?

I'd appreciate any input. (I realize this isn't the F1 board, but it's down right now, so I figured I'd ask you guys.)
