Hesitation

First Gen 4Runner 1989 V6 had a serious hesitation when running cold. Right after start up it's pretty good and when it's up to temperature it's smooth as. In between those times I get a dip of about 200-300 rmp when taking off in first. Have to rev it up to take off and it's slow off. If it stalls it is super hard to start, then goes and rpm's drop out and stalls again. Third try usually it goes and have to gas it as your usually at a stop... not so good.

PCV valve? Fuel pump, filter and lines have all been changed. Idles a bit low when it's warm, should I just turn the screw a little, give a bit more fuel?

Thanks
Jamie R.

Re: Hesitation

So I have been trying to work this out for a while now. Did my passenger valve cover gasket, it was pinched a bit, my EGR valve was pretty gummy. PCV looks a bit worn as well. On big surprise that was found pretty much by accident is that 2 of my plugs were almost cross threaded at the bottom of the head. Giving me a 2-3 cm gap in my cylinder. I am not finished assembly yet but hoping this will greatly help my hesitation and relieve some of the richness in my exhaust.

Re: Hesitation

The symptoms you describe are typical of too wide of gap on the plugs, bad plug wires, or distributer & rotor. But start by gaping the plugs.
