01 GM wont shut off

My wife called me yesterday afternoon, and she told me that her car wont shut off. The key was able to be removed, but still ran. I was several hours away, so when I got home, there was the car in the driveway running away. I ended up, pulling the fuel relay fuse to get the car to shut off. Any thoughts as to what may have caused this?

Possibly the rod that goes to the switch on the column has come loose. They are also known to break the gear behind the key switch.

Re: 01 GM wont shut off

Update: Was busy most of the day, but when I had the chance to work on the car, I reconnected the battery, and started the car, turned it off, and it acted all normal. Wife drove car to town, and every time she needed to, it shut off as its supposed too. I have no clue, but at least now, she knows if it keeps running, what fuse to pull.
Thank you.
