96 GA 2.4L DOHC Tranny Modulator
Recently pulled the motor to rebuild due to knock (believe its a wrist pin). To do so, I had to remove the tranny modulator to remove one of the bellhousing bolts. My question is; is there anything specific I need to be aware of when I re-install this modulator? I've never really messed with one before and it has a retainer and bolt sort of like the old distributors do. It doesnt appear as though anything needs to be timed, but wanted to make sure. Mine is the larger grayish modulator.

Re: 96 GA 2.4L DOHC Tranny Modulator
Nothing special take it out and put it in after you are done. Nothing to adjust. the gray ones are original ones and are not adjustable, (anyway they don't have to be adjusted when you take them out) the gold ones (smaller in size) can be
adjusted if you wish for harsher or softer shifts by inserting smaller flat head inside of the vacuum line fitting and turning screw inside 1/4 of the turn at the time and testing for desired shift points. |

Excellent thanks! It didn't look like there was anything to worry about but wanted to make sure. I really appreciate it..

No problem, just make sure you connect all the vacuum lines to it or you will not have ac, or heat

Re: 96 GA 2.4L DOHC Tranny Modulator
Well I'm just now putting this motor in and nearing the end, I still have a question about this modulator. When I put this thing back in, is seems it doesnt want to seat completely, it lacks about 1/8". Also, I have to depress the smaller piston in it completely to seat so it is actually under the spring tension that the smaller piston possesses to get it in as far as it does go. Is this normal?
After I pulled the motor, the only thing I did was put the car in neutral and push it into the driveway to free up my garage space while I rebuilt the motor, then pushed it back in recently to put it back in. The modulator was out during the moves. I just want to make sure what I'm experiencing with this thing is normal. I have rebuilt a couple dozen motors in my days, but know squat about transmissions. Thanks in advance... |
