Transfer Case Control Module / Install

i have a 2002 trailblazer and had the transfer case control module fail about a year ago. i went to my local salvage yard and bought a used one for $50. installed it myself and everything was fine. (did not need to be programmed). well as luck would have it, the used one i bought last year has now failed. So rather than purchase used, i have decided to purchase a brand new one on the internet. My question is, can the NEW transfer case control module be programmed before i install it to my TB. from what i have read the tech only puts the vin into the module. it would be great if i could drop off the new module on my way to work and pick it up later in the day. What do you expert techs think? yes or no Thanks Royals

No, it must be done when in the truck.
