1986 F350 MAnual glow plugs

I have a 1985 F350 with the 6.9 I have all the stuff to hook up a manual glow plug switch. Does any one know which terminal on the glow plug relay the switch should be wired to? Any diagrams would be helpful?

Re: 1986 F350 MAnual glow plugs

NO NO NO, don't do this.

If all your glowplugs don't work, but you have power going to the glowplug controller, then the controller itself is bad. Get a new one, they are not much money.

The problem with a manual switch is that it is VERY easy to burn-out your glow plugs on these engines. The controller automatically switches them on just long enough for them to start to glow, but no more.

But if they are left on, even for just a couple of extra seconds, they will burn out and need replacing. Literally, it only takes a couple of extra seconds to overheat and burn-out the plugs. Even a second will dramatically shorten the glow plug life
.
It's way too difficult to guess how long the plugs should be energized with a manual switch. If you use one, you will quickly find out all the glow plugs are dead, and you will have to buy 8 plugs AND a controller.

Ask me how I know.......

BTW, yes I know lots of diesels, such as those on contruction equipment have manual glow plugs. Those are built differently and dont burn out, unlike those on your 6.9

I'll second that! Don't use Manual glow plug controller on 6.9 or 7.3 IDI you will burn them up..
