96' grand am fan problem

Hello all.

I have of course a 96' ga. The check enging light came on a couple of days ago and inturn with this happening the radiator fan began to stay on at all times when the car is running. As soon as the car is turned off the fan will also. I have read many threads and spent alot of hours trying to configure what this situation might be. I went yesterday and bought a Temp. sensor but did no good. Then i went this morning because someone said it was a RELAY. hooked it up no good. the OBD read is a O2 sensor and a air sensor. I bought the air sensor and hooked it up so the erratic turning off and idleing at weird moment is done for. But the fan is still blowing and the car doesn't seem to be 100% yet. Any sort of help would be mighty appritiated.

what size engine 3.1 or 2.4?

fan constantly on means that ECT sensor (engine coolant temperature sensor) is sending open signal to pcm and on scanner it will show -41 F. However this does not have to mean that it is the ECT it could be wiring to the ect sensor. You should have black and yellow wires connecting to your ect, make sure they are OK and that connector pins are in good shape (not bent). Then right by the injector harness (that big square connector is for your injectors, and map sensor wires) next to it should be white connector with black and yellow wires that are coming under the upper plenum so make sure that connector is plugged in and that all the wires and connector pins are in good shape. O2 sensor has nothing to do with your fan being constantly on. Also check your coolant level.

- after driving for 30 or more min what does the temperature gauge show?
-also do you have hard time starting when engine is warm? if yes then definitely ect sensor is not sending signal to pcm due to the open circuit.

It is a 2.4L and yes I do have a little trouble starting up when the engine is even warm. I've heard about people have trouble when the engine is cold. thanks for the info any other you or anyone else can supply me with would much help
