Hello!

Hi, just found this site and thought I' drop in a say hello.
As you can see our UK Escorts are a little different from the US ones
Here a pic of my latest one.

It's a 1992 Escort XR3i (130PS), these came in two different power levels in the K, the 130BHP version like mine and a 105BHP version.

Glad to have you on AF!

I much prefer the Euro Escorts over the American ones, but there's not much I can do

I'm very much a Cosworth fan, as you can see by my avatar I'm sure I'll end up owning one someday....

Yeah they are a little nicer looking, I drove a US escort a couple of years ago. Me and a mate came over to see the new Star Wars film before it got released over here. Hired one for 10 days, not the most exciting of drives but then us brits are used to manual gear change

Tell me do the US Escorts have the Zetec Engine fitted?, I know the Focuses (Focii?) do.

Picture of the Beast in Action

Taken at Castle Combe Race Circuit England.
The other two cars are a Sierra Cosworth and a Series 1 Escort RS Turbo

BTW If you wondering why you've suddenly had an influx of Brit Ford Drivers, you can blame me. Most of us are members of the XR Owners Club and I stuck a post up on our BB about this one, I couldn't believe the number of cars covered and active members!!

Thanks for telling your friends...it's guys like you that keep this place growing at the tremendous rate it is

My car also has a manual transmission. I've driven an automatic Escort, and the lack of 5th gear and power lost through the torque converter made it quite slow. While my car is no rocket, it's nippy enough, with 96 hp and 120 lb-ft, and a light weight.

Concerning the Zetec, there is a sport model Escort called the ZX2 that uses a 2.0L Zetec, although it is still a slightly different engine than in the Focus. Same technology though.

Here is a Zetec ZX2, with 130 hp and 127 lb-ft:

Sounds like the ZX2 is similar in performance to my XR3i although mines got a 1.8 L Zetec putting out 130BHP.

Prefer the look of our Escorts still,, have you modyfied you Escort at all? Mines quite mild at the moment, 4" Stainless Steel Exhaust, Koni Suspension kit and a K&N57i Induction Kit, and few minor stylng mods. I have big plans for it though, it in for a respray in the next couple of weeks and I'm getting a roll cage fitted at the same time. Once those are completed I'll start on the engine, probably either Throttle Bodies or a Turbo either way I should be looking at 200BHP or thereabouts.

I've barely done anything to my Escort, as cash is short, being a college student The car has been resprayed though, in "Antique Copper" as seen in the pic in my signature. It used to be cream colored with black bumpers, so this is quite a pleasant change

Some Escorts have been modified, but the aftermarket is quite small, so this limits it a fair bit.

This one is one of the most extreme, and it mostly just used for show. It has a ~180 hp Japanese GTX engine in it.

Heep thats scort in you picture is a big improvement! BTW how much does a respray cost on your side of the pond? mines going to be about £1000 ($1400 ish?).

I had all the bodywork done (rust repair) and the respray for $950 CAD, or about £420.

Re: Hello!

hey heep, just curious, I have a good guess, but where did you get the gtx, and how much of a pain in the ass was it to get it in and find a wiring harness and all those goodies.
