Unhappy transmission wont shift out of 1st

my 92 caprice wont shit out of first gear any suggestions trannys only 3 years old so i know i dont need new one

sounds like your tranni is junk, the first thing you want to do is get in the car with the engine off and full throttle it as hard as you can about ten or fifteen times and then drive it, if that doesnt work then on the drivers side of the trans is a round housing that has a governor inside it, take it out and make sure that the gear is not broke or damaged. hope this helps

There is a round cap held on by a metal clip like what holds your brake cap on open it and look at the plastic gear it is most Likely bad it cost me 50 bucks for the gear and now my tranny works fine I'm guessing u have a 700r trans

$50 for the gear? WOW! I got a replacement gear for mine for under $5 at my local AAMCO shop back in '06.

But yes, this is the governor and this is one possibility - the other is the TV cable adjustment, so double check that.
