Ignition issues
I put my key into the ignition and turned it to the "standby" positon (where electronics are on but engine is not), and everything electrical turned on as per normal for a second, and then everything immediately died. The steering wheel is not locked, but the transmission is locked into park (I could use the release if I need to tow it). Absolutely nothing electrical works on the car (power seats, windows, locks...). The key was difficult to pull out of the ignition at first, but now slides in and out like it should. The weird thing though is that I can turn the ignition from off to standby to where the engine should start without the key even in it...No matter which position I put the key to my wheel is not locked and my transmission is locked. What do you guys think is up?
If my ignition mechanism inside my steering column is gibbled I'm guessing it would be hard to do on my own, since newer cars are rigged with anti-theft stuff?

Re: Ignition issues
sounds like the lock and tumbler are broken you maybe able to shift with the battery disconnected but remeber the shift interlock wont let you shift unless your foot is on the brake

Re: Ignition issues
I'm most concerned with the fact that the car is completely dead; electrical and the engine won't start. If my lock and tumbler are broken what can I try to do before I have to take it to a mechanic and waste a bunch of money?
EDIT: I fixed it today. I unhooked the battery, took the steering column cover off, and then put the key in and moved it around with the release button pushed (that makes your key come out if it's stuck in there), and it seemed to have locked into place. Power returned and everything is fine .
