Question 96 Tbird will engine will not shut off!

The engine on our 96 ford Thunderbird will not shut off. We;ve replaced the ignition switch and cyl. lock. The "pushy" thing in the steering column will turn the ignition switch on, but will not turn it off. Can this part (whatever it is called) be replaced or do we need a new steering column?

Welcome to the forum lotsadogs. According to the shop manual the ignition switch has an alignment pin that has to line up with an index mark on the casting that the switch bolts to. Check to see if the switch is in the correct position. Is this an aftermarket switch that you are having problems with? The ignition switch is controlled by the lock cylinder through a pin that is part of the switch. Is this pin the "pushy" thing you refered to?
