Please Answer
Hey guys im gettin a 84 caprice with a 305 from an old lady with 73000 miles. I was wondering what kind of upgrades to get me more horsepower there is? Please help?

Start with an intake and exhaust. Free those two restrictions ups and you will see some gain.

your getting one with a flat tappet cam, you need to run special oils, like Shell rotella T 15w-40 or other special oils.
Unforuntanelty most 305 are slow asses including yours. You could get a better higher rise intake, a less restricted exhuast, and better distcap/coil, and a better cam but you wont break the 250HP probably not even close. you could go the route I am and build a 350 for it, for the same money to upgrade a 305 a 350 will make loads of power! but takes a lot of time, skill, and money.

Actually, I've found it to be cheaper to build a 350 simply due to the fact that there are many more performance parts readily available for a 350 as opposed to a 305. But when leaving the block alone as you said, yes, they are equal in cost to build.
