06 - 3.5L Head Gasket - 77k

Anyone heard of a bad head gasket on a 3.5L with 77k?

Was just at the dealer because I saw (and can smell) some near the oil pan gasket on the passenger side while I was doing an oil change. They said I have a bad head gasket and what I saw was dripping down. Now they are going to replace both head gaskets. Luckily I have the 100k powertrain warranty on this thing.
Probably going to get rid of it before it goes out of warranty...

Yes on several different makes to.

The TSB does not help on paying for it.

And I thought those models had an "upgraded" headgasket . Don't tell me after all this time the issue was these headgasket weren't Dexcool compatible .

It is more than the Dexcool thing.
But Not sure what.

GM will never "upgrade" anything on there dime. Any other manufacturer would have helped there consumer out with the head gasket and intake gasket failure. GM's long history of do what you can to get the sale and to bad about all the money you have to spend to keep it on the road days are numbered.

We can only hope that they start to turn things around, put a little more quality, thought and engineering into the parts they use to build there vehicles. Every vehicle on the road has its issues, it just seems like GM likes to package those issues with every vehicle!

Yeah it's amazing how GM will choose to ruin its whole reputation over something like a few dollars if that on a gasket design. I guess that's how the financial people think who are running everything-they can't see past their nose over a few more quick dollars for the bottom line.

Anyway, I was under the impression that GM went to an improved HG on the '06+, something about it being graphite or something. I guess it wasn't an improvement.

Turns out both gaskets were leaking. Got the car back, been driving it for a couple days and seems fine. Let's just hope it stays that way.

I have a 2006 impala lt 48k miles with 3.9 engine. last time i had it in for an oil change they told me that the head gaskets were starting to leak a very little bit. i havent got it changed yet but next time im due for oil change i will get it done.
