Question Difficulty in changing belts

Hi, have a 2005 T&C Touring, 87,000 miles.

Thinking about changing belts myself.

How difficult of a job will I be under taking?

Plus anything I should watch out for in the process?

Serpitine belt & timing.

Thanks all help appreciated. Ives

Re: Difficulty in changing belts

There is no timing belt on either engine offered on an '05 T&C.

The serp belt is easily dome with the passenger tire and splash shield removed. Use a 15mmn (I think) wrench on the tensioner to release the tension on the belt. There should be a sticker on the vehicle that shows how the belt is routed. If there isn't it won't hurt to make one yourself.

Re: Difficulty in changing belts

3.3 and 3.8 ltr engines have a timing chain designed to last the life of the van. I use a shorty 15mm socket on a breaker bar with a two foot pipe on the handle for leverage to release the tensioner and remove the belt. Sears sells a purpose made extended bar with a set of shorty sockets just for the job. Edit - Not sure on 4th genearation vans (yours) but on 3rd gens I just go from up top. No need to remove anything.

Smile Re: Difficulty in changing belts

Thanks a lot for the advise. I wouldn't have known to enter through passenger tire and remove splash shield. Thanks again Ives

Re: Difficulty in changing belts

3rd generations are way easier to do through the wheel wells as well. Especially when your changing the tensioner and motor mount bracket because the belt keeps coming off! :O
