ARGH!!! 1999 suburban electrical??

I have a 1999 suburban k1500 4wd. 117K miles. I inherited these problems when I bought the truck a few months ago and now its getting dark I need to fix these:

2 problems I think they are related:

1st: I get no interior lights when I open any door, tried changing headlight switch and yes the override button is out (or in doesnt matter I tried both ways). Chime goes out if I shut the door so I know the switches are good.

2nd: I cannot use remote keyless entry. I tried reprogramming key fobs, but when I jump pins 4 & 8 I get no response from the suburban. I disassembled dash looking at all connections. Everything looks fine, still nice and shiny under there.

Dealer wants $80 an hour to look through it, said it can take hours, so I decided to tackle myself.

Anyone ?

This out of my '98 C/K manual. If your '99 is a NEW BODY STYLE it is probably different.

There are 2 modules that relate to interior lighting.

1. Interior Lamp Control Module (located under the center of the I/P)
2 Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (located right side of the steering column support bracket under the I/P)

Maybe swap one or both out with units from a salvage yard.

Question: Can you turn the domes on manually with the light switch?

Its an old body style. I can turn the domes on with the switch manually.

Theres all kinds of stuff under the dash and I do not know what one looks like. Can you identify the LCM and remote lock assembly?? Do you have a pic in your manual or something??

If I swap remote lock assembly and light controller, would I be asking for issue with security system? Like would I have to get these from a 99 GMC suburban only??

Thanks a whole bunch. PS I tried the method for programming the locks where if you have a BCM?? (body control module) and still no response from the truck. I have double checked and pulled every fuse related to this.

SWEET!! I just went out there to try and find it and what I found was a huge harness unplugged. What a pain in the ass to get to. I plugged it in, and now my lights come on when I open the door AND get this.......My key fobs work!!

Why the hell would anyone unplug that thing, its a PITA to reach. My hands are bleeding LOL but it works now. I can pop the back glass and have light when I put groceries in, and I can pop the back doors for the kids to get in

Anyway thanks for your tip, so I could know where to look.

Preventing battery drain might be a raison...
Sometimes my '99-old body Sub won't crank after 2-3 days rest while the battery is/was good.

Found out that the "dome override" button should always be pushed in or my battery is drained even overnight!
I don't exactly understand the raison for this button because it makes no difference. In either position the dome lights come on when I open my door(s).

Yeah I had an 01 silverado and you could disable the auto headlights with the dome override but that was it.

So the button needs to stay "in" to prevent draining?

Sometimes the door switches will wear and in cold weather they can shrink enough that the interior lights will come on, it happened on my 96 and now the dome override is always used

Borguy brings up a good point as to why it (?) was disconnected.

With the override button in the lights should not come on when a door is opened. However they should come on when you use the remote fob to unlock the doors.

With the button out the lights should come on when a door is opened and go out when the door is closed in around 25-45 secs. (My Sub is 30-35 secs).

thanks. Now I get it. And it even works that way
But I leave it pushed in anyway. Don't like to jump-start it in the morning...

My 95 was losing battery by having the lights come on by themselves. An easy fix is to get the longer version of the front door jamb switches (the switches are like $6.49 at O'Reillys) Swap the shorter dash ones with the longer ones and no more problems.

You want the 22mm ones (my Burb had the 16mm ones which became too short over time) which are AC Delco D6066.
