Wouldn't you know it, now it's a P1404 code

It's been about 3 weeks since repairing the intake manifold leak, and everything was great until my check engine light came on. Just before my DMV inspection last year it was the p0410 code, this year is the P1404 - EGR something or other.

Surprisingly, there's not much info for the code on a 99 3.1 Malibu, which is what I own. Well here's what's going on, the check engine light seems to come and go. When I start the car cold, the code clears, but returns after the car warms up. It stays on for a day or two but then it clears on its own, only to return days after. Any ideas?

This is one of the most annoying codes. I just can't get rid of mine. Sorry I'm no help.

Re: Wouldn't you know it, now it's a P1404 code

I get a 400 series code on my 99 Suzuki Esteem every couple of years, since both of these cars have OBD-II systems they are probably going to have common problems.

To clear the error: Remove the EGR valve from the intake manifold and check the passage way that goes into the main air chamber, mine is often plugged up with oily goo I hit it with some carb cleaner and a test tube brush until it is no longer plugged up.

After that clear the code with a code reader or go down a long steep hill and let off the gas, the check engine light should go out.
