New here

Hello everyone
I am new member, my name is Alberto.
I was building motorcycle models when I was very young, like 10 to 13-14 years old, of corse now they are all scraps, not even worth to post PICS of those, lol, I hope, ones I have the skills I may rebuild them. About 10 years ago I wanted to restart my hobby but then life took me to other busy roads but I had bought 2 1/12 kits that I am starting now. One is Bimota tesi 1D and the other is a Honda NSR 250 cup noodle. I was half way building my Bimota when i found a few forums on the net and I started to see all you can do with these models, OMG, I had to stop and since then I started buying all sort of things over the net, my main package will be coming from HK with all the patty and extras stuff from Top Studio, I like to start with just a few extra details and I hope to get better and better as I go. I do not have a airbrush yet but I hope to get one in the future, so all my bimota so far has been hand brushed, so not looking to good, lol. Also I looked at the Tamiya web site, there is a part were is says we can make suggestions for future products, I emailed them but I had no answer, I am Italian so I have a special love for Italian bikes, hehehe, I was suggesting them these, lol, what you guys think?

A small tip for you regarding this. Many of the modelers on here, me included use the Tamiya spraycans on their projects both on smaller and bigger pieces. They´re very useful and provide a very good finish and with the added bonus of no cleaning up to do when your done, as opposed to an airbrush. They can also be good if you have problems with getting a place to spray as they´re easier to use outside. On a balcony for instance.

Only downside is that they´re pretty expensive in the long run. But it´s a good start before committing to an airbrush.

Too bad Tamiya did´nt reply about the Bimota & MV, they are really nice bikes. But maybe they´re too hardcore to appeal to the large audience.

Looking forward too seeing your work on here!

Cheers!

Emil

Re: New here

Welcome to AF, and you can use spray cans on small items. Comes out great, but it wastes the paint quick. Good luck.

Well, that is what I am starting to do, I am buying a lot of spray cans, lol, even if I do not have to clean up after the downside is also the combination color, I can't do that with the spray, also some colors are not available like XF 16, flat alluminum is very important color since a lot of the time some big body parts are this color.
About the tamiya not replying, I was expecting at least an aswer, lol, they did make the bimota tesi 1D, and the 3D I think will attract a lot of people if some after market parts are made it will be an awesome bike for everyone I think.

Re: New here

Anyone knows who sells Tuner model manufactory items in US? Looks like they have awesome combination for details.
Also I want to change all the tamiya pipes for more realistic scale and looking, any suggestion for size and quality looking? Same question here, can I find them in US?

Re: New here

Hi again!

Regarding the XF-16 you can try to use Tamiya spray AS-12 which is called "bare metal silver" It´s identical to XF-16 and dries to a matt surface.

Different colours can be had by shooting them over different basecoats. Say you want a dark italian red then you can use a black or gray base or a lighter tone red use white or yellow as a base. It still is´nt as good as an airbrush but it gives you some more options.

And also if you want to buy "tuner" nuts and bolts try www.hiroboy.com. he stocks them and ships international. I buy most of my stuff there.

Cheers!

Emil

OK, thanks, I will add AS-12 to my collection right the way, lol. I guess for now I will ask here when different colors are needed to the more expert guys to what my best options are, it seams you guys can find a solution to every problem, thank you very much.
I was given in a PM already the hiroboy site as a reference but I emaled them, signed up to their site but I never got a response from them, I do not really feel confortable to buy from a web-store which it doesn't return emails, I wanted to ask some questions before I bought since I am not an expert i was looking for direction on the right size items I needed for the 1/12 scale of motorcycle, also I wanted to get the new fiat 500 ferrari as soon as it came out but I had no response to my email, ??????

Hiroboy is notorious for not answering emails, the easiest way of getting in touch with him is to call. He really is a nice guy, and you should not be afraid. I must have spent like $800 there and never had a problem.

Cheers!

Well, I am in US and I do not think I want to spend an extra 50 USD to call UK when is not necessary. I will wait and see if anyone knows a place to get these items directly from US, if I do not have a choice I will then call. I did get other contacts in Asia, HK and Japan were I could get those items also and they do reply to emails.
