4 Wheel Drive Seems Tight

Hello All. This is my first post, and I hope it's not a 100% moron question..

Here's the deal...

I have a 99 Chevy s10 blazer, runs great. Last winter, the 4 wheel drive quit working. I changed out the relay type box behind the passenger kick panel, and that did the trick. 4 wheel drive started working again!

Now the question...

This past weekend, I was driving in the grass / stones to test my 4 wheel drive and make sure everything was still working ok. When I click the button to 4 HI, it engages the 4 wheel drive, but feels like it doesn't want to move very well. You have to give it some gas, and it feels very hesitant to move. When I take a turn, it really seems tight. Also, the 4LO works just fine. 4HI seems almost like it.

I know my friends have engaged their 4 HI while I was in their vehicles, and there's seemed to roll more smoothly while engaged.

Any thoughts? Sorry for rambling. Thanks Guys.

Only the dumb ones know it all and do not ask questions.

What transfer case?
Does the shift buttons have a auto4W button?

If not it is normal for them to be tight or crow hop on a turn.
But not straight ahead.
Also do not drive it on dry payment in 4W.

Get it on a grade and see if it will roll down grade in 4W transmission in neutral or clutch down.
Are your tires a matched set?
IF NOT THAT WILL MAKE THEM BIND UP.
Are rear ends gear ratio the same?

Thanks for the reply. I guess I might just be over reacting, and it's working ok. All of the things you mentioned are fine.

I'll do some more testing and see how it goes.

You are welcome.
It is normal for them to bind up on turning on dry payment.

Try putting it in 4W on dry payment and without turning steering wheel pull forward a 100 ft at 10-15 MPH and then let off of gas and see if it stops quicker than normal.
Then shut off engine and place transmission in neutral and see if you can hand push truck forward and backwards.

If it binds up on them test you may have a problem.
If it rolls free you are ok.

So I tried the steps you mentioned...

I was able to successfully push my blazer, after placing it in 4WD, and putting it in neutral.

So I guess it's safe to say, that I should be good to go, come winter!

Also, I just wanted to say that this website is great. I was able to successfully change my fuel filter and PCV valve last night, thanks to the instructions on this site.

It's quite sad when you turn your old fuel filter on end, and chunks fall out.

Yes 4W should be good.
Just remember do not drive in 4W on dry payment.
