looking for 4sp transmission for 77 camaro

Building a pro touring 77 Camaro. It is an original Z28 4sp car that someone had put in an automatic. I want to put it back to a 4spd car but Muncies are becoming scarce and high dollar. I bought a good Saginaw 4sp from a 69 Camaro but have recently heard bad things about this trans.

Any suggestions on a trans for this car? It has a stock rebuilt 350 CID

Well, anything cheap isn't going to be much good.

You could always install the Saginaw and simply not thump it much in first gear. A 1977-era stock 350 will not overpower that transmission unless you are in the habit of doing odd things like full-on first gear launches with lots of clutch slip and blazing tires.

Anything else will cost a bit of money.... and IMO if you are going to spend a bit, get a 5 speed, like a T-56 from a wrecking yard.

Also, look at Richmond transmissions. They have fine 4,5or 6 speed trannies..... but they are a little expensive.

Which one?

For the T-56, check with a wrecking yard. They should have a Hollander Interchange manual, which would tell you which ones are good.

As for Richmond.... contact the company. You may be able to use the Saginaw bell housing, or buy one from them.

The Richmond bolts up wherever a Mucnie, BW or Saginaw "was".
