im going in a perfomance orented direction but also daily driver

this is what i need to know what year head should i get i know some had different cams and such (the original head has burned valves and bad scaring on the cam) ialready know the basics like the atx tb , header exhaust i plan to port the head (only 60 bucks from local junk yard)

Re: new project need advice

As far as I know, the 95 cam is alittle bigger than the 96 up cam. I too am doing the same thing as you right now. I think I'm just gonna go with the 95 cam ... although I've heard something about a Magnum cam from later models but I'm not sure which years they were in. Good luck with your project.

Re: new project need advice

The magnum cam from the 01+ ACR or R/T is a more agressive cam than the 96-00 cams. You can use DOHC pistons to slightly raise compression. If you can polish the head when you get it ported, DO IT. Makes a nice difference. You can also build your own 3.0L intake, DOHC muffler, oh and get a Performance PCM.

Re: new project need advice

thanks for the responses so would the entire head off a 01 and up r/t bolt to my lower half (i will try to go this route if so) its too bad my 95 cam is trashed , i have no plans to do the lower half, i may have the head milled down a bit to bring up the compression the ecm may have to wait im on a small budget but for a muffler i had a glass pack left from my camaro so that is going on ill be doing the port work on the head myself so ill be polishing it as well (did my camaros heads turned out pretty good) i will keep you guyz up to date ive tore out the interior and doing some costom stuf to the wheels (same as das2123's now) probly going to lower it a few inches also

Re: new project need advice

You can use a magnum head but there are some differences. The 01+ heads don't have an EGR and I am not sure about valve covers. You could get around the EGR by upgrading to a Mopar Performance PCM anyway!!!

Re: new project need advice

You can not use it, if you don't mind living with the CEL lit all the time. Although, people have reported no CEL after removing or blocking off their current EGR.

Re: new project need advice

It won't affect performance at all. It will light the CEL because the PCM won't get a reading from the EGR.

You can also use a resistor to simulate the load on the EGR to help keep the CEL from lighting.
